eCampus

eCampus is North Kansas City School’s online learning program. Courses offered are identified by the symbol at the bottom of the course description. All courses are taught by experienced district teachers and meet the same national, state, and district standards. Courses can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, using any computer with internet access. Canvas is the course management platform used for courses via the internet. Teachers communicate with students by using a variety of communication tools such as: email, voicemail, discussion boards, blog, and through the virtual classroom. Students enroll during their regular enrollment time with their building counselor.

Northland Career Center
NCC will host an open house for 8th, 9th, and 10th graders and their families on Thursday, November 8th between 4:30 and 7:30. Come learn more about the 12 available programs!

Northland Career Center offers both morning and afternoon sessions. Students need to check with their counselor to determine the number of credits needed to graduate and additional courses recommended. Student selection for the Northland Career Center is based on successful completion of prerequisites, good school attendance, grade point average, standardized test scores, and an interest in career and technical education. Upon successful completion of a one or two-year course, the student will receive a certificate and list of completed competencies.

MCC BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY
MCC-Business & Technology and North Kansas City Schools have developed a new program option for students eager to build skills in two high-skill, high-demand technical career fields: Engineering Technology and Design and Industrial Technology. Both programs give you a head start toward a college certificate or degree and put you in a good position to qualify for paid internships and for jobs with Kansas City area companies. Students completing the program can earn 15-20 college credit hours for two years of participation.
The details:
Who: These programs are open to current sophomores who will be juniors, from the North Kansas City School District, who have expressed an interest in the featured career pathways.
Where: Metropolitan Community College-Business & Technology campus, 1775 Universal Avenue, Kansas City, Mo., 64120. Your school district will provide transportation from your high school to the campus.
When: The programs will start on at the beginning of the school year, and will run according to the MCC academic calendar (www.mcckc.edu). You will be on campus from 8-10:30 a.m., Monday-Friday. Students enrolling in the program be at the Business and Technology Campus in the mornings (1st and 2nd Blocks) and at Staley HS in the afternoons (for lunch and 3rd and 4th Blocks)
Transportation: School bus transportation to and from MCC-BTC will be provided by the North Kansas City School District.
Cost: NKC School District will cover all costs associated with the program (tuition, books and fees).

NORTHLAND CENTER FOR ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL STUDIES

NORTHLAND CAPS OVERVIEW
Students in the Northland CAPS program meet for 2.5 hours, every day, either in the morning or afternoon, securing high school credit and college credit. Northland CAPS courses are facilitated by a certified instructor and are located at the business partner site, e.g. Holland 1916, North Kansas City Hospital, Cerner. Students gain access to high demand/high skill careers working with professionals every day. Learning is driven by the business partner projects, resulting in highly engaged and motivated students. Formal instruction is minimal due to the fact that learning occurs in real-time, while students collaborate across teams and subject areas to complete a project goal.
Juniors & seniors who successfully apply to the program can enroll in one of these four strands:
1) ENGINEERING AND ADVANCED MANUFACTURING:
Immerse yourself with engineers and manufacturers using state-of-the- art tools and software to create and test 3D prototypes of new designs. Solving complex problems, designing lean manufacturing processes
and programming robots are the future of engineering and advanced manufacturing. Explore the automation of engineering and manufacturing processes in several software languages and how to design efficient “handshaking” operations between robots and machinery.
2) TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS:
Discover a vast array of specialty areas available in technology careers where professionals utilize technology to solve business problems and design products. Immerse yourself in a professional environment whole you tackle and solve real world problems while exploring the following areas: software engineering, web development, operating systems hardware technologies, network design/technologies, management information systems and emerging technologies.
3) MEDICINE AND HEALTHCARE:
Embedded in the hospital setting, experience the dynamic field of medicine and healthcare through hands-on opportunities. Alongside some of the region’s most experienced medical professionals, advance your understanding of human physiology, disease process, medical terminology, patient care, professionalism, ethics, and finally, provide an exploration of many career opportunities in healthcare.
4) GLOBAL BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP:
In an ever-changing world, business and marketing decisions must be adapted to the global economy, many times driving businesses to expand globally. Partner with local, regional, national and international businesses to produce real deliverables to include: marketing plans, advertising and promotional plans, customer research, social media plans, event management and strategic plans. Be prepared to develop a domestic business with the intention to take it global.
